Itinerary

Days 1-3 Nairobi, Kenya to Maasai Mara.
Our trip starts in Nairobi, from where we cross the Great Rift Valley and enter the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s premier wildlife park. Our camp gives us perfect access to the park for afternoon and morning game drives in search of the ‘Big Five’. We may also visit a Maasai village and meet the traditional people who live in the area around the reserve. From the ‘Mara’, we briefly head back to Nairobi for an overnight stop.
Day 4 Nairobi to Arusha, Tanzania.
Crossing into Tanzania we make for Arusha, known as ‘safari town’. Here we have another opportunity to meet the local Maasai, as well as some other ‘locals’ in the Meserani Snake enclosure – but don’t worry, it’s quite safe!
Days 5-7 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha.
We transfer to 4x4 vehicles for a memorable 3 day excursion to the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge and the Ngorongoro Crater. This region of Tanzania is renowned for the remarkable volume and variety of its fauna. From the vast plains of the Serengeti to the staggering beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater, East Africa’s gorgeous scenery and abundant wildlife is sure to take the breath away!
Days 8-9 Arusha to Dar es Salaam.
From Arusha we drive in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro and cross vast tracts of savannah en-route to the port city of Dar es Salaam. We spend a night in heady ‘Dar’, the gateway to Zanzibar.
Days 10-12 Zanzibar.
We catch a ferry to Zanzibar to experience three days of leisure and tropical delight on the dazzling ‘Spice Island’. Explore Stone Town’s alleyways, architecture and markets, but leave time to check out the white sand beaches, leaning palms and warm tropical waters for some serious relaxation.
Days 13-14 Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park – Iringa.
Leaving beautiful Zanzibar behind will be difficult as we head back to ‘Dar’ for a night. Then we drive via Mikumi National Park and the city of Iringa as we journey towards Malawi.
Days 15-19 Lake Malawi to Lilongwe.
Malawi is one of the friendliest countries we visit and is dominated by Africa’s third-largest lake, Lake Malawi. With over 500 species of fish (most of them endemic), the lake provides a living for many locals. We spend several days here making camp along the shore, usually by the beach, and whilst here we can try diving, snorkelling, sailing or horseback riding, and take a guided village walk to see how the locals live. Departing the lake, we briefly visit the Malawian capital Lilongwe.
Days 20-21 Chipata, Zambia to Lusaka.
Leaving Malawi, we cross the border to Chipata in Zambia’s east, before making our way west to the capital Lusaka.
Days 22-24 Livingstone.
We then head on to Livingstone, and the region around this colonial city close to Victoria Falls is our base for the next few days. In addition to the awesome power and beauty of the ‘Falls’ themselves, the area is also Africa’s adventure capital – here we can try white water rafting, gorge-swinging, canoeing or even bungee jumping! We view the Victoria Falls from Mosi-Oa-Tunya (‘Smoke That Thunders’) National Park and have time at leisure.
