Itinerary

Day 1 - Istanbul - 19 April 2012

Welcome to Istanbul! Check in this afternoon with your Topdeck trip leader at our centrally located Istanbul hotel. This evening we meet all the members of our group at our pre-trip briefing before heading to a local bar in Sultanahmet for some “get to know you” drinks.

 

Day 2 -   Istanbul “Old City” - 20 April 2012

After breakfast, we enjoy our guided tour of Istanbul, taking in the Blue Mosque, the Aya Sofia, Topkapi Palace, the Underground Cistern, the Hippodrome and Grand Bazaar. This afternoon we head out for our included Bosphorus cruise, and tonight why not join us for an optional traditional Turkish dinner with ‘Belly Dancers’. (B)

 

Day 3 -  Istanbul to Kusadasi (via Bursa) - 21 April 2012

Today we head south to Bursa, the former capital of the Ottoman Empire, where we see the Ulu Camii Mosque which dates back to the 14th century. Bursa is also famous for its silk production and a visit to the Silk Bazaar is a must. Then it’s on to the beachside resort of Kusadasi for our included dinner. (B, D)

 

Day 4 - Kusadasi (via Ephesus) - 22 April 2012

Today we visit the ancient city of Ephesus. Stand in awe and feel the mystical atmosphere of the city halls and stadium where chariot and horse races were once held. This afternoon it’s free time to explore the city of Kusadasi and its excellent restaurants and nightlife. (B)

 

Day 5 - Kusadasi to Bergama (via Pergamon) - 23 April 2012

Leaving Kusadasi, we head north towards Bergama which is known for its gold, cotton and carpets. We stop at Pergamon, a former ancient Greek city where we have the opportunity to go on a guided tour of the mighty Acropolis. This evening we relax over our included group dinner. (B, D)

 

Day 6 - Bergama to Gallipoli (via Troy) -24 April 2012

We depart this morning for our visit to Troy, the site of the famed Trojan Wars. Then we continue to Gallipoli and head the World War One battlefields. Tonight we “camp out” under the stars, gazing out over the tranquil waters of the Aegean Sea as we await the Dawn Service. (B)

 

Day 7 - ANZAC Day at Gallipoli - 25 April 2012

We awake before sunrise to experience the ANZAC Dawn Service, before trekking up the very same cliffs as the ANZACs. At Lone Pine we participate in the Australian Memorial Service, which is followed by the New Zealand service at Chunuk Bair. This afternoon we return to Istanbul for our final night in this amazing city.

 

Day 8 Istanbul - 26 April 2012

Breakfast at your leisure this morning before we farewell the other members of our group and continue on with our travels. (B)
