Itinerary

Day 1 Sydney to Snowy Mountains.
Our trip between two great cities begins today in Sydney. We leave the skyscrapers and beaches behind and journey to the nation’s capital, Canberra. Architecturally designed by Walter Burley Griffin, it’s awash with cool green spaces and grand boulevards. Our included city tour takes in the iconic Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and a number of Foreign Embassies. Later we head through the Monaro Plains and learn a little about Australia’s biggest ever engineering project, the Snowy Mountains Scheme. We stop for the evening in the heart of the gorgeous Snowy Mountains. (D)
Day 2 Snowy Mountains to Gippsland Lakes.
We may be high up already, but this morning we’re going even higher – Mt Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak at 2,228 metres above sea level. Don’t be put off; it’s a relatively moderate hike from the top of the Crackenback Express chairlift, or you can take the shorter walk to the lookout point. If our visit falls in winter (June – September) we’ll stop at the ski resort of Perisher for a little snow-related fun... snowball fight! Our afternoon drive southwards heads through magnificent Snowy River country, before we cross into Victoria and reach our destination of Lakes Entrance. (B, D)
Day 3 Gippsland Lakes to Melbourne (via Wilsons Promontory).
Today we weave around the coastline to Wilsons Promontory National Park – the most southerly point of the Australian mainland. It’s a park of great natural beauty where kangaroos and emus live amongst verdant green bushland, with crashing waves not far away. We hike to a nearby lookout for great views, before making our way to Melbourne, Australia’s sporting and cultural capital. This stylish city has obvious European influence, reflected in the fine food and coffee, international theatre and the amazing shopping! It’s a captiavting place, full of bustling trams and winding lanes full of hidden gems. It’s a fitting place to end our brilliant little trip, and we say our goodbyes upon arrival. (B)
