Itinerary

Day 1 Hobart to Strahan.
Our Topdeck Tassie trip starts today in Hobart. We travel through the Derwent Valley to Lake St Clair - Australia’s deepest freshwater lake. From here it’s not far to the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. We finish up in isolated and beautiful Strahan, perched on Macquarie Harbour, where we enjoy a BBQ dinner. (D)
Day 2 Strahan.
A free day to explore Strahan and surrounds! We visit Ocean Beach and the Henty Sand Dunes to stroll along the harbour and visit the nearby temperate rainforest. Optional activities such as jet boating on the King River, a scenic flight over the Gordon and Franklin River systems, kayaking or even fishing for salmon in the harbour are also available. (B)
Day 3 Strahan to Launceston (via Cradle Mountain).
Today we journey to breathtaking Cradle Mountain National Park. It’s not far then to Sheffield, “the town of murals”, before we head to historic Launceston. (B)
Day 4 Launceston to Bicheno.
We start today by visiting Cataract Gorge in the heart of Launceston - perhaps take a dip in the outdoor pool! Then it’s off to the east coast and the Bay of Fires – think spectacular red rocks and blue waters – before a scenic coastal drive south to Bicheno. This evening we can take an optional guided walk to see the local penguins as they come ashore (seasonal). (B)
Day 5 Bicheno to Hobart (via Freycinet National Park).
We’re up early for Wineglass Bay with its secluded beaches and hiking tracks up Mt Amos. In the afternoon we travel to the historic village of Ross where we can sample some of the bakery’s delicacies (highly recommended) or see the town’s bridge (built by convicts). There’s still time for a quick stop at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where we’ll meet (and feed) some Tasmanian Devils! Tonight after an included dinner, why not hit the town in Hobart. (B, D)
Day 6 Hobart (Port Arthur day trip).
After visiting the colonial village of Richmond, we head to Port Arthur, a former penal colony and World Heritage site known for its significant place in Australia’s history. An included guided walk and harbour cruise bring its chilling history to life. We then return to Hobart where our trip sadly ends. (B)
