Map of East Explorer 2012 - 13

DAY 1 Port Arthur

We travel to nearby Port Arthur today, an original convict site and a place of great historical significance to Australia. Firstly, we’ll stop off in the well-preserved colonial town of Richmond, and the sweeping vistas of the Tasman Peninsula. Take a guided walking tour through the former prison site, as well as harbour cruise. Then we’ll visit the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park and get up close ‘n’ personal with the iconic emblem of the Apple Isle. Finally we’ll head back to Hobart, where you have the evening to explore this cosmopolitan city at your leisure.

DAY 2 Hobart to Bicheno

We head up the east coast today, heading for the world renowned Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park. There’s a variety of walks on offer, from the Wineglass Bay lookout through to the demanding Mt Amos climb. It’s not far to the seaside town of Bicheno, where you can take up the optional viewing of the local penguins heading home for the day. (B)

DAY 3 Bicheno to Launceston

The scenic views continue today as we travel up to St Helens, before hitting the Bay of Fires (aptly named for the fiery orange lichen that covers the local rock formations). We’ve got time to walk along the beach and discover the link the Indigenous people have to this special place. From here, we head inland, passing through thriving rainforest country and visiting the booming St Columba Falls. It’s a short drive back to Launceston and the end of our trip together. (B)

Please note that this trip forms part of the Tassie Unplugged trip, days 1 - 3.
