Itinerary

Day 1 Barcelona, Spain
Welcome to Spain! This afternoon we meet our Trip Leader for a tour of this funky city. We see the Columbus Monument, Sagrada Familia, Montjuic, Pueblo Español and Las Ramblas before our welcome dinner. (D)
Day 2 Barcelona to Valencia
This morning spend some free time to explore Barcelona before we head to Valencia. (B,D)
Day 3 Valencia
Start the day with a walking tour of the Old Quarter of Valencia, taking in such highlights as the Plaza Ayuntamento, Silk Exchange, Central Market, Plaza Redona, Plaza de la Reina, the Cathedral of Valencia and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken. The afternoon is ours to explore the rest of the city or head to the beach. (B)
Days 4-5 Valencia to Granada
We head to Granada, the last Moorish city in Spain to fall to the Christians. Visit the Alhambra, once a fortress, with palaces, gardens and a small city all in one. (B,D) (B)
Day 6 Granada to Tangier, Morocco
Today we head to the southern tip of Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar to Morocco. We spend this afternoon exploring Tangier, a very ancient port town that used to guard the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. (B,D)
Day 7 Tangier to Fes
Today to Fes, the oldest and largest medieval city in the world. (B,D)
Day 8 Fes
Begin the day with a tour of this fascinating city with a local guide and spend the afternoon at our own pace. (B)
Day 9 Day trip to Meknes and Volubilis, Fes
We take a day trip out to the Roman ruins of Volubilis. This ancient site, dates back to 40AD and was once the ruling centre of the Roman province of Mauritania. We also visit the city of Meknes, once the capital of Morocco. (B,D)
Day 10 Fes to Seville, Spain
We bid farewell to Northern Africa and return to Europe. (B,D)
Day 11 Seville
On our tour of Seville we see the beautiful Plaza de Sappan, the Cathedral of Seville, the Real Alcazar, and the Barrio De Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter and a Flamenco show. The tapas bars are definitely worth a visit! (B)
Day 12 Seville to Lisbon, Portugal
On to the next country on our journey – Portugal. On arrival in Lisbon we see the sights including Jeronimos Monastery and the Belem Tower, a World Heritage Site. Tonight we check out Bairro Alto, one of the oldest districts in Lisbon and the heart of Lisbon’s nightlife. (B,D)
Day 13 Lisbon
A free day to check out the many attractions that Lisbon has to offer. (B)
Day 14 Lisbon to Porto
En route to Porto we stop at the nearby town of Sintra to visit the Palacio Nacional da Pena, one of the best examples of 19th century Romantic Architecture in Portugal. We also stop at Vila Nova de Gaia, just across the river from Porto and the port capital of the world! Here we enjoy a tour and tasting at one of the many port cellars. (B,D)
Day 15 Porto
Today explore Porto. Check out the Ribeira district, the famous medieval old town of Porto. We see many azulejos, the handpainted tiles that characterize many of Portugal’s buildings. The ones on Sao Bento Station depict the country’s history. (B)
Day 16 Porto to Madrid, Spain
To the capital of Spain, magical Madrid. En route we stop at Salamanca, one of the most spectacular renaissance cities in Europe and home to the oldest university in Spain. (B)
Day 17 Madrid
On our city tour we see the Royal Palace, home to one of Europe’s oldest monarchies, and the Plaza Mayor. There is plenty of free time to visit the Prado or relax in the peaceful botanical gardens. (B,D)
Day 18 Madrid to San Sebastian
First stop Segovia then it’s on to San Sebastian in the Basque Country. (B,D)
Day 19 San Sebastian
Try surfing or just chill on the beach. Later today check out the city’s many pintxos (tapas) bars in the old town. (B)
Day 20 San Sebastian to Barcelona
First stop today is Zaragoza then it’s on to Barcelona where our adventure began. (B,D)
Day 21 Barcelona
Our trip ends today after breakfast. (B)
