Czech Republic is the perfect place to start exploring Eastern Europe!
Hidden for decades behind the former 'Iron Curtain', Czech Republic opened up to the West after becoming independent from the former Czechoslovakia in 1993. This naturally beautiful country can boast some fantastic cities.
Prague's killer nightlife has rightly become legend, but the Czech capital has so much more to offer than amazing partying – its gothic spires, grand palaces and charming squares make it perhaps the finest medieval city in Europe. On a smaller scale, gorgeous Český Krumlov is another superb example of a romantic Eastern European town.
Although Czech Republic is now firmly a travel heavyweight, if you head away from tourist hotspots it's still possible to get some of the cheap prices it became known for in the 1990s. It really does offer the best of old and new Eastern Europe!
