Italy. Just thinking about this country makes your mouth water, your stomach rumble and your jeans feel tighter. Gastronomic delights aside, this place has got history by the bucket load, landscapes that look like they’ve been photoshopped, cities so romantic even the biggest cynics will turn into Julia Roberts from Eat, Pray, Love, and more duomos, churches and piazzas than you can remember. So pack your fat pants, this trip is Italy done right.

Roll out Topdeckers! We’re kicking things off with a traditional lunch and wine tasting (obvs) with the gang on the slopes of Mt Vesuvius. This is livin’. Then, we’ll make a pit stop at one of the most famous ancient cities in the world: Pompeii. Abruptly buried by a volcanic eruption one evening in 79 AD, this incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site is an ancient-history-buff’s wet dream. Get the run around with an expert on an optional guided tour – ticking off ancient forums, colourful preserved artworks and the Stone Phalluses of Pompeii (ask your guide, we dare you). Later, we’ll roll down the glittering Amalfi Coast to Sorrento. Get your bearings, feast at a local restaurant with the gang, then kick back and soak up the atmosphere. Yep, you’re finally here.

Organise a boat tour to see the famous bluer-than-blue Blue Grotto. Jump on a local bus and explore picturesque Positano. Take in alllll the views from Villa Comunale Park. Or simply pull up a sunbed and soak up some rays. Later, you can test your balance on an optional paddleboarding sesh that doubles as a guided tour. It’s more fun when you fall off said paddleboard (just sayin’). Fact: lemons are kind of a big deal here – so make sure you sample some limoncello or lemon gelato before the day is done.

Day 5 - Sorrento Coast – Assisi

Located in Umbria (aka central Italy) – this place is all about art, culture and I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E natural scenery. En route, we’ll stop off at the Antico Frantoio Nunzi olive oil mill in the beaut village of Bevagna for a tour and a delish local lunch. Then it’s onwards to Assisi where you’ll have some free time to explore its 14th-century streets. Take a peek at the eye-popping St Francis Basilica frescoes, check out Temple of Minerva or wander around Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo. Then, head to a local wine bar to sample a drop (or two) of the good stuff before filling your tum with some local grub. Our top tip? Try anything with truffles – the region is famous for them.

But first: the romantic AF city of Siena – rich in Renaissance architecture, sporting some spesh churches and home to Europe’s greatest medieval square (where the famous Palio horse race is run). Soak it all up at your own pace and then hunt down a local trattoria for lunch. Top tip: try this area’s take on pasta called pici. Then? Prepare to make your food baby sing (even louder) as we roll into Florence. Gelato, anyone?

Day 7 - Florence

Florence has more stories than Bilbo Baggins, more culture than a London hipster, AND it gave the world gelato (praise be). We’ll get the lay of the land on an in-depth walking tour with a local guide. Then: take your new-found knowledge and hit the streets solo. Uffizi Gallery. Ponte Vecchio. Piazza della Signoria. The Duomo. You can’t see it all, but you sure as hell can try! Later, catch an epic sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo and hunt down a gelateria for a scoop (or two... again) of the good stuff – we mentioned it was invented here, right? If you wanna get a little tipsy, join an optional tour that’ll have you floating around Florence with delish local bevs in your belly. Vibes = immaculate.

This place is the definition of “hidden gem” and you’ll get plenty of free time to discover why. Then: get your creative juices flowing for THAT photo at Pisa before we hit up La Spezia (aka the gateway to Cinque Terre) later. Completely void of corporate development and full of quirks, this is a place where la dolce vita is not so much encouraged as enforced. And you’ve got a full free day to embrace it all. Need some suggestions on how to make the most of your free time? Catch the train to Riomaggiore for colourful postcard-perfect marinas – then down an espresso and hike to Manarola for a quick dip off the rocks. Or trek to the hilltop village of Corniglia for pizza, then work off said pizza with a hike down to Vernazza – check out the church, grab a gelato and train to Monterosso. Sunbake, swim, spritz, watch the sunset, have more spritz. Then head back to La Spezia when you’re done. This is livin’. *Note: is walking the best option for you? If not, save us the headache and just get on the train. You know who you are.

Insider tip: spend some time seeking out the epic Libreria Acqua Alta bookshop or head off the tourist trail with a trip to Giudecca Island. Go wandering. Chat to the locals. Pros:
- This tour is fantastic in taking you to all the main areas in Italy that you want to visit.
- The Vatican / museums are included in the tour, which is great as it saves time waiting in line to buy a ticket and you learn information about the Vatican that you probably wouldn't know otherwise - especially as there's no real signage anywhere.
- There's a lot of free time to do what you want...

Fantastic tour guide Paola and driver Carmine, both were excellent.

Vatican city tour could have been planned better by Topdeck as there was a strike planned by public transport which was well in advance. Topdeck could have organised a small tour bus to take us rather than us having to frantically organise on the day - which our tour guide did try to help us all with.
Other than that, quite...

The trip visited so many amazing places, our trip leader was fantastic and we had such a beautiful group of people. Whenever we stopped Paola gave us recommendations of things to see, places to eat, and specific foods to try. We didn’t have any issues but I know she sorted out others on the trip quickly.
I loved all the stops, the rooms were basic but nothing to complain about. The only thing I...

Highly recommend this trip! For 2 weeks, you're able to see a lot of Italy and experience a lot of different experiences. It is on the pricier side, however this is reflective of prices in Italy currently. Our trip leader, Helio, was brilliant and made the trip what it was - he genuinely cared about the group - our safety, made sure we were enjoying ourselves and always helped out in organising...

A great experience and a taste of some of Italy’s most iconic locations. Plenty of extra activities you can choose to do by the base tour also provides so many great activities that are included in the price

A great opportunity to see more of Italy compared to many of the usual Euro trips, exploring amazing places like Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, Florence, Venice, Rome and Cinque Terre. Our guide, Helio, was knowledgeable, so friendly and helpful and great fun too. While some of the hotels were definitely a bit older, it was all part of the experience.

I recently went on the Delve Deep Italy tour and it exceeded all my expectations. As a first-time traveler to Italy, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

I definitely recommend doing the additional activities on offer, they are well worth it - the Food and Wine tour in Rome was fantastic, the food was delicious and we visited family-owned businesses so it felt nice supporting the local...

This trip was the perfect first experience of Italy. Made all the more better by our tour leader Paola. She ensured everyone had a great trip and had all the best food recommendations. Definitely recommend the optional extras, especially the food tour in Rome. I had a great time and had given me a good plan for what I would love to come back and see more of.

What an amazing tour with an amazing tour leader Paola. The trip was a perfect balance of in depth & informative but fun with great socialising. This was my first tour so I didn’t know what to expect but Paola made the whole trip one to remember.
All the stops were amazing. Breakfast at the hotels is sub par however that is the only small fault I could list.
Thank you Paola & Topdeck ❤️

Really great coverage of Italy. Saw all the major sites and locations, plus more. Accomodation was mostly good and the included meals were a bonus, showcasing the specific cuisine of the area. Absolutely fantastic trip leader - Paola, a local, new everything there was to know about the different locations, best places to eat and the best activities to do/scenic photos to take.

This was my first tour, my first time in Europe/Italy, and this tour overall was amazing. It's the "I've never been to Italy and want to see all the tourist things" tour. And it does it well.

The biggest compliment I can give Topdeck is hiring Paola. If you are going on this tour and are lucky enough to have her as your tour leader, you will enjoy this tour more. She's passionate, genuinely...

Overall, the tour had a range of great inclusions and optional activities. All the hotels were clean and had the necessities. The itinerary hadn't been updated so most travellers were a bit disappointed that the included cooking class was not happening.

Delve Deep: Italy was amazing!! Italy is a stunning country and although it felt a bit rushed, it was a great way to see a large amount of the country in a small amount of time. For what we got, it was pretty cheap too!

The group was like travelling with family. We all made great friends and got along so well! We often had to come together to organise our own activities and it was so much fun...

We had a tour leader who was helpful and knowledgeable about Italy, however when he hosted tour is there was little commentary unless asked for. He was able to connect well with the group and seem more like a part of it than a leader which was perfect for the set up of the tour. I would have expected the leader to come in with more knowledge of the group (eg medical and dietary requirements) and...

Good amount of included activities, good length, great locations, good amount of free time. Great age group controlled tour, made for a fun experience with like minded people.
However, the optional activities were overpriced and some were poorly run. The boat trip to Capri cost €120 and was meant to include the blue grotto, but when we got there it ended up costing extra (more than the actual...

Such an awesome experience! Being able to see so much of Italy in a relatively short period of time was insane, and I didn't feel as though we were rushing between locations. Alex was a top-notch group leader, sorting out any issues immediately as they came up and was highly knowledgeable. I have already started recommending my friends and family to Topdeck!

Considering the current economic climate, I thought the trip was value for money. I loved the trip by the way - I am just pointing out some particulars for those people who go on the trip so you know what to expect :)

Yet again, I have to speak to the tour manager's lack of professionalism, and Top Deck's insufficient Trip Notes so that we could better prepare for this trip.
