Movie Set Tour

Prepare to fall in love with the Alexander sheep farm, just as LOTR director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through The Shire. Your guide will escort you around the 12-acre set, showing the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how movie magic was made. In 1998, Sir Peter Jackson’s team of location scouts stumbled upon Alexander farm – a stunning 1,250 acre sheep farm in the heart of the Waikato. Taken by how much the area resembled the rolling hills and lush pastures of JRR Tolkein’s The Shire, the team quickly realised that their Hobbits had found a home.
